About the Comox Valley Farmers’ Institute
The Comox Valley Farmers’ Institute is an organization that has been in existence since 1873. The Farmers’ Institute was incorporated under the Agricultural Associations Act in 1914. They were the 56th institute in the province to comply with the new act.
Today there are over 80 members and the monthly meetings have invited guest speakers to impart the theory and practice of agriculture. The CVFI delivers programs such as the Waterfowl Compensation Program, the Demonstration and Variety Trial project, maintains an equipment co-op and arranges the bulk purchases of products and provides networking opportunities to farmers in the Comox Valley.
The Christmas parties, bi-annual farm equipment auction, harvest celebrations, farm tours and general meetings support the social aspects of farming and welcome new farmers to the Valley.
In 100 years the Comox Valley Farmers’ Institute has remained very active and an important contributor and advocate to the continued success of agriculture in the Comox Valley.
