The Comox Valley, Vancouver Island, boasts over 400 farms and some of the most stunning & abundant agricultural lands in the province, and it only gets better when you can explore it on two wheels during the 7th Annual Comox Valley Farm Cycle Tour.

The Comox Valley Farm Tour allows cyclists of all skill levels and ages to experience the countryside of the region, as they discover the incredible array of farms. Meet local growers and sample fresh produce from the fields. Pick your pleasure — visit as many Tour Stops as you like and go at your own pace on this self-guided adventure.

*Cyclists will sign a waiver at the start location and be given their Farm Cycle Tour Map!


Shopping Shuttle ($5 surcharge):

Shop at the farms, wineries, or breweries without worrying about carrying the extra weight on your bike. Shopping Shuttle service can pick up your goods and deliver them back to you at the end of the day for only $5 per person.

Town Tour: Trails & Tastes of Courtenay offers an opportunity to cycle in and around trails and routes that are best accessed by bicycle. We’ll weave our way through trails surrounded by lush forests, open roads with expansive views, and paved paths paralleling the river – allowing our guests to explore the community beyond what you see by vehicle or by foot. And like all Island Joy Rides tours, we’ve sprinkled in tastes of local food and refreshments at a few of our favourite places along the way.

Amara Farm is a certified organic farm that specializes in garlic, vegetables and blueberries. Come see how the farm is able to produce year-round in unheated greenhouses and taste their famous garlic scape jam. A special tour of the house’s geothermal and solar hot water heating system will also be provided for those interested in the sustainability side of farming.

We offer three different varieties, in season from July to early September. Our farm stand and ice cream parlour offers pre-picked and frozen blueberries, our very own blueberry ice cream, blueberry sundaes, and a great selection of Island Farms hard and soft ice cream. We also make the best frozen yogurt in town, with real fruit ground in right in front of you. Garry Oak / Willow Works Courtenay

At Garry Oak / Willow Works Courtenay, they germinate Garry Oak acorns, transplant the baby trees into pots, and distribute them for regeneration of the Garry Oak habitat that is now less than 1% of its former self.This farm also grows 19 varieties of ornamental willow used for weaving and they are specifically grown for their non-invasive properties. They have willow structures and sculptures as well as living willow fences, or fedges (fence+hedge). Their willow is used for ornamental purposes, some varieties have great new growth colour, beautiful and unusual leaves, or flashy catkins.

Hazelmere Farms

We are a certified organic farm since 2002 growing a large variety of fruits and vegetables and raising chickens, ducks and lambs on a small scale. We also keep bees! There will be a Beehive art show with actual painted bee hives, bee themed paintings by the Art Group of the Comox Valley, a demonstration bee hive etc. This is a multi-sensory event promoting awareness of bees and other pollinators.

There will be delicious snacks and drinks for sale featuring our farm’s produce throughout the day.

For Sale: Farm fresh produce, products and honey. Wonton soup combo lunch will be served at a cost during 11am-2pm.

Innisfree Farm and Botanic Garden

Innisfree is a herbal farm and an internationally registered Botanic Garden – we host the largest collection of medicinal plants and biennial herbal conference in Western Canada. Cyclists will pause among the plants, visit the gardens and the shop, taste herbal teas and other health products, walk the Labyrinth.

The shop at Innisfree showcases products made from medicinal plants grown in the gardens, and other plant foods from the farm.

Island Bison is a small family farm located in Black Creek with the goal to raise the healthiest red meat for their family, friends and customers. Bike past the main bison herd on Hamm Rd, and ride up the driveway to the farm store.

Kehler Vegetable Company

Stop by our small family run market farm in the heart of Black Creek. Shop our seasonal farmstand filled with farm produce and preserves. We will have snacks, coffee and tea available and you can pull up a stump by the fire!

Lawn to Food

Wander through the front and backyard vegetable gardens on this 1/4 acre lot in Comox. Lawn to Food grows a surprising amount of organic food in a small space, by utilizing vertical supports and consecutive planting. Lynda Smith was a competitor on the Food Network show Chopped Canada, where she was able to promote her Lawn to Food message nationally. Come and learn a few tips from her about how to grow and preserve bounty from the garden.

We will be giving tours and showing the public a modern dairy farm. We have been here since 1969, with ever evolving changes throughout the decades. See the mature cows, baby calves and equipment that is needed to operate a dairy farm. Milking is from 1:00 – 3:30pm.

Cyclists are welcome to do a self guided tour of our hedge maze, fill their water bottles, and take a break on our new patio! Cookies will be baked for the first 100 cyclists!

Sylvia’s Handspun
2748 Smith Road, Courtenay

Cyclists will be able to see the sheep that produce the wool for Sylvia’s Handspun at Cork Tree farm. They can also view the small studio where she produces her wool handmade products. Sylvia will be conducting demonstrations of spinning wool on her spinning wheel between 11am and 2pm. Sylvia’s daughter Jessica will also be on hand to provide thirsty cyclists with free samples of her refreshing Heavenly Libations non-alcoholic artisan drinking shrubs.

Wayward Distillation House

We are a small craft distillery making all of our spirits from 100% BC Honey. While visiting the distillery cyclists will have the opportunity to sample a variety of our spirits and tour the distillery, learning all about fermentation and distillation of honey based spirits!

There are bottles of all our craft spirits available for sale. We will also be offering a bag check service which will allow cyclists to purchase and then pick up later after their ride, so as to not have to bike around with heavy bottles if they don’t wish to!

Whitaker Farm
6255 Whitaker Road, Courtenay

Whitaker Farm has a very deceiving presence, from the front it looks like an unassuming 1970’s bungalow but when you walk past the house the farm opens up into a 26 acre expanse of mixed farming, including market veg, lavender, livestock and agritourism.

We will take you on a tour of our operations & property, the 1930’s original farmhouse which is now a vacation rental, show you a simple way to preserve your excess produce to make a delicious drinking syrup called Shrub. And, of course, you will get to see the distillation unit in action.

You are welcome to spend some time sitting in our four acre forest on a bench by the creek or at a picnic table by the farmhouse enjoying the views.

Willovic Farm

Enter from Stapley Road, between two fenced and fallow fields, past the pond on the right and second growth fir forest on the left, uphill to Will’s workshop, bakery kitchen, and guest suite. on the north side of this building is a copy of a European farmhouse wood-fired oven and tangled gardens beyond. Further up the driveway, there are chicken dwellings followed by Vicky’s yurt art studio next to our home. Most of the action will be at the wood-fired oven but getting a tour of the studio from Vicky is always interesting.
