The 9th annual Comox Valley Farm Cycle Tour was on September 22nd, 2019.

With over 400 farms and some of the most stunning & abundant agricultural lands in the province, it only gets better when you can explore it on two wheels!

The Comox Valley Farm Cycle Tour allows cyclists of all skill levels and ages to experience the countryside of the region, as they discover the incredible array of farms. Meet local growers and sample fresh produce from the fields. Pick your pleasure — visit as many of the Tour Stops as you like and go at your own pace on this self-guided adventure.

Refunds are only available at the discretion of the event organizer. This event is rain or shine.

  • Registration is from 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM. Cyclists will sign a waiver at the start location and be given their Farm Cycle Tour Map
  • Volunteers will be on hand to suggest routes and assist with cycling related questions!
  • Farms are open from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Fireweed Farmstead was started by the husband and wife team Jens Onneken and Fiona McQuillan. After living in the Vancouver area for many years, they decided to pursue their goal of creating a sustainable, family-friendly farm producing nutritious, naturally-grown, and most importantly, really tasty food. Their vision is to provide their community with not just good food, but a memorable experience of learning, laughing and eating.

Their farmstead currently consists of greenhouses, field crops and pasture. The farm has layer chickens (affectionately called “the herd”), pigs (seasonally), goats and ducks. The two busy children of the farmers might also be spotted, along with Tikka the customer greeter dog.

We will have soup to sample (along with the recipes), fruit leather and other processed products to sample. Fiona will have her Metal Mantra jewellery displayed. There will also be a special plank challenge for a prize 🙂

Garden Lore is a seasonal nursery, and features 1/4 acre of garden close to the Puntledge River. The garden is maintained using Permaculture principles, and will have in-site signage explaining some of these practices. Explore the sun garden in the front, and the shade garden in the back. Two greenhouses are in use for propagating and growing. Cyclists are welcome to enjoy one of several secluded seating areas in this garden oasis.

Kate’s Flowers is a life long passion and business carried over into a scaled down retirement hobby. I do custom baskets and planters, basket stuffers plus well started vegetable plants. We have been producing and selling at the Farmers’ Market since 1995, and have just opened our farm store this summer. The store includes a seating area with a guitar which is always tuned up and waiting for someone to play, and we will have free coffee (Royston Roasting) and water bottle fills for the tour.
