Old House Hotel
Our All-Suite Hotel is Your Relaxing Home-Away-From-Home in the Comox Valley
One of Vancouver Island’s most comfortable and welcoming experiences, the Old House Hotel is an all-suite hotel comprised of two West Coast-inspired buildings – Maple and Cedar — set along the Courtenay River. Our West Coast-inspired property features spacious accommodations with petite or full gourmet kitchens, fireplaces, soaker tubs, washers and dryers, comfy beds and numerous little touches that will enhance your stay. Amenities include an outdoor heated pool and hot tub, fitness centre, meeting rooms, an always-popular refreshment centre, Ohspa -- a full-service spa, electric car charging stations and the renown Locals Restaurant. We're pet friendly and located only a few blocks from downtown Courtenay. Within a short drive, you’ll find the Comox International Airport, beaches, hiking, golfing, Mount Washington Resort which features amazing winter and summer activities and countless other adventures.
Courtenay’s Old House Hotel and Spa is located close to the city centre beside the Courtenay River, and is a lovely place to stay for folks who use a wheelchair or scooter.
As mentioned, the river-rock-fronted hotel has many features that those using mobility devices can appreciate, starting with two accessible parking spaces in the parking lot. The step-free entrance into the spacious earth-toned lobby sets the atmosphere, which is a blend of ski chalet, west coast, the natural elements and casual elegance.
The all-suite hotel offers accessible rooms that are spacious and comfortable, with plenty of space to manoeuvre around the bed and other furniture. In the suite, there is a small kitchenette that could work for some. The bathroom was spacious with plenty of grab bars. The shower was not roll-in style as it had a two-inch lip, but there is a built-in bench. Folks who can manage a pivot transfer could likely make it work. The sink had a counter cutout for wheelchair users. Light switches and thermostats located throughout the suite were also positioned at the right height for wheelchair users, but closet racks, the safe, and the door peephole were not.
Down at the lobby level is a beautiful outdoor pool, the pool deck is accessible, but there is no hoist. A large workout gym with treadmills, free weights and exercise machines is located down a floor from the lobby (and pool).
There is an excellent wheelchair-accessible restaurant located in a charming 1938 cottage overlooking the river, as well as a popular spa.
